Motherboard & processor sockets has to match.
same generation motherboards & cpu tend to match. SOme motherboards also support for next gen processors.
Just go to processor specs, find processor socket number.
Find motherboards that supports the socket number.
Usually same generation Intel core processors i3,i5,i7,i9 have same socket pin.
Ex: AM4 for amd cpus

Over locking in mother board bios/uefi is also simple.
All amd Ryzen series comes with over clocking.
When comes to Intel we have pay extra price for unlocked version prefix with k. Ex: i10- 10080k
Pcie slots used insert graphic cards.

Not all cases supports all motherboard formfactors check the pc case size & specs as well.
Things to consider before buying motherboard board
Cpu & motherboard should have same matching  socket ( know socket number)
Size: more size more features & price
PCIE slots with latest generation at least 3-4 *16 lanes
M.2 slots for SSD
does your mother board supports nvme protocols for faster SSD
M.2 speed
number of ports & latest gen usb 3.0 vs usb 2.0 hdmi v1.4 vs hdmi 1.3 thunderbolt, usb type c, pcie latest gen
audio surrounding 7.0 etc
Designed for cooling.
Ram slots
Sata slots for HDD.
